"What if we could each gain access to the full range of human
qualities that lie suppressed within us? What the future could hold,
and what each of us could become, is limited mainly by what we
believe.” Revolution from Within Gloria Steinem
Ego State Therapy is
an approach to psychotherapy that engages our "inner voices". This
internal dialogue can be understood as being driven by parts that
characterise our inner feelings, reactions to the external world or
our prevailing mood states.
Ego states are the "parts" of us as we
shift from one state of mind or mood to another. Because we can have
many states from which we can choose, it is possible to learn to
change from a state that feels out of control to a state that has a
feeling of competence. Working with ego states can foster an
improved psychological and physiological experience of life. (Emmerson,
2003)
